Following Her Passions

After being picked up from theater class...

Willow: Can I read you my lines?
Me: Of course!
....Willow read and sings her lines from their class play....
Me: That is awesome. I am impressed with your reading Willow.
Willow: Yeah, but envious is a hard word to read.
Me: Yeah, that is a tricky one.
Willow: But I am just following my passions.  Gymnastics used to be my passion but theater, being on stage, that is my dream.
Me: Well, you are doing it. Remember last year when we saw Monsters at Kingsbury Hall and you said you wanted to be on that stage?
Willow: Yeah.  And now I am!
Me: Yep, goal achieved.
Willow: I love my life

Some "Willowisms"....A Little About Unschooling

A conversation Willow told me about today with a friend at theater...

Friend: So, what do you have tomorrow?
Willow: hmm, Tuesday...oh I don't know...
Friend: Well, I have school.
Willow: I don't.
Friend: What?
Willow: Remember, I am homeschooled?
Friend: Oh yeah, no fair...so do you do school at a certain time of the day?
Willow: No, I am an unschooler.
Friend: A what?
Willow: I learn from life, just living it.
Friend: I don't get it?
Willow: Well, I get to follow my passions, like this. (theater class)
Friend: No fair, ok lets practice "Time Out for Kids" ( a musical number from their play)
Willow: ok!
Friend: I don't get time out, I get grounded.
Willow: I don't get time out or grounded.
Friend.  Are you serious? NO FAIR!....Can I come live with you?

10 Months

Mr. Rowan is 10 Months old today( 7 1/2 months adjusted)! He is 16 lbs 1 oz and 27 inches long of pure sweetness. He has his first tooth and loves to eat everything. His favorites are avocado, banana, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, and anything else we happen to be eating.

He knows the ASL signs for food, water and nursing,  he has started signing for nursing while saying "na na na"  and it melts my heart every time to see that little hand squeezing open and closed.

He is trying to crawl. He can get himself from one side of the room to the other by scooting/rolling.  He is very determined!

I  had to clean out his dresser this month.  He has officially outgrown his 6 months clothes and his first set of cloth diapers and covers.  He is now in 9-12 months clothes and he has all new diapers and covers. I can't believe how fast he is growing but yet he is still so tiny!

Teething has been hell for him :( Lots of bath time, skin to skin, his amber teething necklace and Hyland teething tablets are all helping. Our nights are long and heartbreaking. Why does it have to be so hard?
He is my first baby to be super duper attached to David.  Seriously, it was giving me a complex there for a while and then I thought, wait, all those years of my other 4 refusing anyone but me and now I have a wee one that will happily go hang out with Daddy...I should be embracing this! We shall see how long it lasts.  It came on suddenly.  He literally collapses in a bawling mush when David leaves for work or even just leaves the room. He does it with Josh too but on a much lower level of freak out.  I think he just likes to be with the boys!  Oh, but most of the time only mama will do and that works for me.

I will be leaving him for the first time since he came home from the NICU.  Willow is in a play and they don't allow babes in arms in the theater so he will stay with David while I go see her perform with one of the older 3. I know some people think that I am crazy for feeling off about leaving him but all those weeks I had to leave him in the NICU it was like leaving my heart and taking my empty shell of a body home. It is not a good feeling.

Willow has already been talking about planning Rowan's 1st birthday.  It does not seem like it is only 2 months away!

Happy 10 months little man.  We love you ~

The Natural History Museum of Utah

Today was free day at NHMU.  Willow has been many times before with friends and family but this was my first time. Very cool museum! I told a friend that we ran into that Willow was my guide for the day, showing me around.  She then kept referring to herself as my mentor. Yes, Willow, you are my mentor in more ways than you could ever know.
Willow has always enjoyed weaving.  She has made some pretty cool weaves and she said this was her favorite exhibit.
Rowan had the grandest time! Anywhere that stuffed animals can be found you will hear him laughing hysterically.

Sand and water...he wanted to get in the pool...

He had one arm out for touching everything. All the rocks were fascinating.

Exploring boxes of puppets.  He was so happy. He really loved all the little kids running around.

Willow laying in a cast of a giant footprint found in Utah!
Rowan had to join in...he sat in the toe :)

I swear if he could run he would.

A fun day at the museum followed by pancakes, hot chocolate and french fries, a chiro adjustment and then 3 hours of play rehearsal.  I need a nap...

Another great day to be an unschooler...

Mystic Hot Springs

We headed down to Mystic Hot Springs with our friends to celebrate Jerusha's 15th Birthday!
Rowan loved his first camping trip and soaking in the hot springs.

Willow and Eli loved it too...

We had to drag Josh and Hannah from the cabin...

 But the tubs were divine!

 Becca and Eli enjoying hooping...

But we finally got the older two to join the Birthday girl!

 Happy Birthday Jerusha!

Little man fell asleep after a few hours in the water...

 Relaxin...

Back to camp to make dinner...

Becca made a delicious dutch over dinner for us all...

Rowan was yelling, growling and embracing the outdoors!

 So very happy!

 Breakfast time!
Lots of camp dogs to love...
